Nasuret village sits on the Kenya-Uganda border. The area is seen as no man's land. As a result, the village seemed abandoned, with no facilities or water supply. This week, thank God for the changes taking place as the once desolate village is transformed.
Sunday 22 September
‘Our village was forsaken and with no hope of life,' explains villager Michael Natolimo. ‘There was no source of water, school or health facility.' The community was desperate to see their village restored, but their efforts never led to much success. Lift up the country of Kenya today. Pray that those living in desperate poverty would experience a kindling of hope.
Monday 23 September
‘God has done marvellous things for Nasuret village through community transformation,' says Rebecca, one of the villagers who took part in Tearfund's Transforming Communities training. ‘He has truly answered the prayers in an amazing way.' Pray that more churches will get involved in the training.
Tuesday 24 September
In the village of Nasuret, Tearfund's life-changing training began with a session called ‘Envisioning of the church'. Over this four-stage session, the church members were inspired to build a vision of what change they desired to see and what they could do to bring about the desired change. Thank God today for the energy and vision local churches can bring to communities.
Wednesday 25 September
Nasuret's closest school was more than 12 miles away. Following Tearfund's training, the church decided to convert their church hall into a classroom. They also convinced the local government to assist with finances to build a proper classroom. Pray that the 50 school children now supported will enjoy a good education.
Thursday 26 September
The big need in Nasuret was water. Through Tearfund's training, resident Loteba learnt about advocacy and speaking out. He made a call to the local radio station, explaining how his village was suffering. The Kenyan government heard the cries of the people and paid for a borehole. Pray that this will inspire others to call on the government for help.
Friday 27 September
‘That day when water finally gushed out, celebrations rang in the air as community members celebrated the coming of a resource they had lacked for a long time,' says Morgan Kinyua, Tearfund Project Officer in Kenya. ‘People washed their clothes, showered and fed their livestock with that water the whole day as they rejoiced.' Father God, thank you for clean water. Amen.
Saturday 28 September
A health centre, a market and honey production are underway in Nasuret, all dreamed up and led by church and community members. Pray that the example of this church and community will inspire many more to get involved and start a journey of transformation.
