Our humanitarian workers and partner staff face extraordinary challenges in their work. This week, keep them in your prayers as we focus on what their work involves and how they find the strength, courage and motivation to keep doing it – all in the name of Jesus and his kingdom.
Sunday 25 February
‘I feel I have the passion to reach out to these people because God has given us a responsibility to reach out to people in need no matter what,’ says Ndyaguma, a project manager with Tearfund’s local partner, Help Channel Burundi. Praise God for this passion and pray that God will supply him and his colleagues with continued energy in the face of challenging circumstances.
Monday 26 February
Lois works for the Jos Green Centre, one of Tearfund’s local partners in Nigeria. She teaches people ways to look after their environment and to adopt environmentally sustainable behaviour. But Lois has to walk a dangerous road notorious for armed robberies and kidnappings to do her work. Pray for God’s protection over her as she reaches out to the community.
Tuesday 27 February
Shadrach and his team, who work for the Jos Green Centre in Nigeria, lead sessions in secondary schools on topics such as planning skills and vocational training. They’re committed but face financial constraints and huge demand. Pray their efforts continue to inspire and guide the young people they serve and that they will have the resources they need to do this.
Wednesday 28 February
According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, 54 per cent of women have experienced physical and sexual abuse at least once in their lifetime and many women in the country face discrimination in their family life. Pray that God gives Sylvia, a project manager for Tearfund’s local partner in Bangladesh, the resilience and wisdom to promote the rights of women and children through her work.
Thursday 29 February
‘We’re trying our level best to support the people, giving them life-saving items. But still, we are in crisis for funding,’ says James, who works in the Tearfund Asia and Bangladesh Rohingya Response team. Pray that God would help James and his team overcome obstacles in getting life-saving supplies to people in the refugee camps.
Friday 1 March
Ruth works for Tearfund in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘The challenge that I face in my administration work is to keep Tearfund’s Christian values. And also to be a good mother,’ she says. ‘I love what I'm doing... that when the team here reach their goal – going to the community directly – we are proud to help them.’ Pray for Ruth as she balances work and motherhood.
Saturday 2 March
Nehemie, Media Officer for Tearfund DRC, sometimes faces challenges such as bad roads, bad weather, and safety and security risks as he travels to do his job, but in spite of all of these things, he still manages to wake up every day feeling motivated. Praise God for Nehemie and his dedication to serve God in the DRC and pray for his safety.
