In Bangladesh, Tearfund’s partners are shining God’s light and bringing hope to communities as they walk the path out of poverty. Solar lights, better sanitation and opportunities to earn money – these are just some of the ways families are walking towards a brighter future. This week, pray for people in Bangladesh on this journey and our partners who walk alongside them.
Sunday 11 February
Heavenly Father, we lift up churches in Bangladesh and ask that you would use them to bring deep and lasting transformation for your people. May they be hope in a hurting world and beacons of light in broken places. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
Monday 12 February
When Morium’s father died when she was 16, her family was pushed deeper into poverty. Our local partner Shalom inspired Morium to join a savings group. She has since received a loan to buy a sewing machine and has learnt to sew professionally. Pray for Morium's dream of owning a tailoring shop to come to fruition.
Tuesday 13 February
Songit felt helpless. His job as a fisherman wasn't making enough money and he struggled to provide for his family. But with training in vegetable growing and support from Shalom, Songit started growing aubergines, tomatoes, spinach and gourds – for the good of both his family’s health and his income. Praise God for the good gifts that are springing up around Songit. Pray for abundant harvests.
Wednesday 14 February
Samina turned creativity into income by crafting garlands to sell following cash assistance from our partner Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB). Thank God for the work of Samina’s hands as she hones her craft – each strand of her garlands a piece of his provision. Pray this will be woven into many more lives in Bangladesh through business start-ups. Pray that people would take hold of opportunities and run with them.
Thursday 15 February
Mr Zinnah and his family of eight, living in a Rohingya refugee camp, struggled to collect drinking water safely at night as there was no proper lighting. Our partner CCDB installed solar street lights to help them and their community collect drinking water safely. Thank God for lighting the way and pray for resources to allow even more solar lights to be installed to light the darkness.
Friday 16 February
Our partner CCDB built a latrine and bathing space facility in the Rohingya refugee camp that Senowara and her family were living in. Thank God for restoring Senowara and her children’s sense of dignity. Pray that increased access to sanitation and knowledge of good hygiene practices would reduce illnesses in the camp.
Saturday 17 February
Almighty God, we close this week of prayer for Bangladesh with thanks for how you’re helping people transform their lives. Thank you for their resilience, tenacity and determination. Be with them and our partners as they walk alongside others on their path out of poverty. Your kingdom come, your will be done. Amen.
