Asia is the world's largest continent, in both area and population. Tearfund supports communities in 16 Asian countries including Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines and Thailand. This week, pray for this region, which is prone to natural disasters and wealth inequality.
Sunday 30 March
Last year, Bangladesh experienced severe political unrest, including mass protests, riots and violence. The prime minister resigned and fled the country, leading to chaos. An interim leader and cabinet have since been elected. Pray for the safety and protection of our staff, local partners and the people we serve. Ask for a swift return to peace and stability for Bangladesh.
Monday 31 March
We work with more than 400 local churches in Cambodia through our Transforming Communities projects. These churches have helped to support their communities with savings groups, creation care and many other activities. Ask God for continued success in partnering with the local church in Cambodia and for strong relationship-building through our local partner.
Tuesday 1 April
Last year, India experienced extreme weather conditions. They recorded their highest temperature in May and were later hit with heavy rains, triggering major flooding and landslides. Pray for more usual rain patterns this year and ask for comfort for those who have lost their loved ones.
Wednesday 2 April
Indonesia is the fourth most disaster-prone country in the world. Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire and at the intersection of three major tectonic plates, Indonesia is vulnerable to volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis. Pray for protection against disasters.
Thursday 3 April
Monsoon season in Nepal last year was deadly, with intense rains triggering landslides. Pray for protection and safety for our local partners as they continue to support communities. Lift up people who were displaced and ask for continued access to shelter and resources as they rebuild their lives.
Friday 4 April
Only one per cent of Thailand’s population identifies as Christian, and nearly half of those live in rural areas. We support creation care movements outside urban areas through the local church and our Transforming Communities programme. We also work with local partners to support displaced people from neighbouring countries. Pray for continued access to resources for our local churches and partners.
Saturday 5 April
The Philippines is the world’s most disaster-prone country, hit by typhoons, floods, cyclones, tsunamis and many more emergencies every year. Pray for protection against disasters, particularly for people living in high-risk areas. Pray that our local partners can continue supporting communities to help reduce the risk of disasters to prevent harm.
