One year, two years, three years... Seeking to change policies, practices, systems, structures and attitudes that are at the root of poverty and injustice doesn’t happen overnight. This week, pray for Christians putting their faith into action by speaking up and acting for change.
Sunday 6 October
Between 1923 and 1986, 16,000 children in Brazil were separated from parents living with leprosy. The pain and suffering experienced by these families is unimaginable. But finally, after years of campaigning, Tearfund Brazil successfully lobbied for a new law providing financial support for people with leprosy and their children separated during those years.
Monday 7 October
Pray for Haiti, where 30 church and young leaders received Tearfund’s Transforming Masculinities training on sexual and gender-based violence. Ask that each of these individuals will feel equipped to influence their communities to prevent and reduce sexual and gender-based violence.
Tuesday 8 October
Praise God for Tearfund’s advocacy training in Pakistan, where 27 pastors and church leaders have taken part in a programme focusing on influencing and social accountability. Pray that more Tearfund partners and faith leaders will be equipped and empowered to engage in advocacy, so that this will result in changes to unfair public policies and practices.
Wednesday 9 October
The stories of Nehemiah and Moses in the Bible show us there are stages and approaches to learn from when acting as an advocate. As you pray for the global advocacy work of Tearfund this week, pray for listening skills, good preparation, partners to work alongside and faith in the face of opposition.
Thursday 10 October
After two years of advocacy work in Nepal, Tearfund and its partners there are celebrating a new policy that will raise awareness of human trafficking, support survivors and ensure more perpetrators are brought to justice. Praise God for this policy. It’s the first of its kind in Nepal and a milestone achievement for human trafficking survivors.
Friday 11 October
Over the coming months, Tearfund Nigeria will be promoting research on Nigeria’s Green Minerals, a report that presents an alternative pathway to a more secure, sustainable, affordable, just and equitable energy transition from fossil fuels. Please pray for fruitful conversations with the government, private sector, civil society and others.
Saturday 12 October
Praise God for the words of Jesus in Luke 18:27: ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God.’ Spend time reflecting on this verse and pray that Tearfund’s advocacy work across the world would bear much fruit.
