Sunday 22 October
Since the start of a civil war in 2011, more than 14 million people have fled their homes in Syria. But there are still many minorities, including Christian believers, who have remained despite feeling vulnerable and under pressure in their communities. Pray for protection, for the doors of churches to be open to all, and for leaders of the church to have wisdom, faith and vision.
Monday 23 October
In Bangladesh, there are fewer than 1 million Christians among a population of 168 million, and most people are Muslim. Thank you, Lord, for the way that the church has been engaging in community development work and contributing to the local community and economic wellbeing of people in Bangladesh. We pray for continued relationship building and for the connections of the local church to continue growing. Amen.
Tuesday 24 October
During the general election earlier this year, the church in Nigeria became more influential in decision-making in the country. Pray that the Nigerian church will be united and establish a network that will influence decisions and policies that will speak justice, defend human rights equality, and help people reach their God-given potential.
Wednesday 25 October
In 2021, a military coup in Myanmar forced large numbers of people to flee their homes. The Christian minority is bearing the brunt of these attacks and still 1.7 million people are displaced in the country. Churches have been attacked and destroyed. Pray for a peaceful return to democratic rule in the country so people of all faiths can live without threat.
Thursday 26 October
Only two per cent of people in Niger are Christians – the majority are Muslim. When Christians turn their backs on Islam, it’s seen as also turning their backs on the support of their families and wider community. Today, please pray for protection for these people and for the church to grow across the country.
Friday 27 October
In some parts of Indonesia, women are required to wear specific cultural clothing, and women with different religious backgrounds (including Christians) who don’t comply can face bullying and interrogation. Indonesia also suffers from frequent natural disasters and other effects of the climate crisis. Pray that God would work in and through the local church and our partners to support those in greatest need.
Saturday 28 October
Lord, we lift up your church, shining your light across the world. We pray for Christians in Syria, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Myanmar, Niger and Indonesia facing challenges living out their faith. Help them to stay safe from stigma and mistrust as they follow you. Amen.
