This week we’re focusing our prayers on the Toilet Twinning initiative, which helps families and communities build their own toilets and funds community-led hygiene education workshops. This keeps people safe from sicknesses like diarrhoea and protects vulnerable people from other dangers when forced to defecate in remote areas.
Sunday 17 November
Lift up all those who have experienced the loss of loved ones or have faced abuse as a result of not having a safe, clean toilet. Pray that God will give them comfort and emotional and physical healing.
Monday 18 November
Judith, age 16, and her family live in a small compound in Nigeria that houses nine families. With no proper drainage, waste disposal became a huge challenge. There were days when the toilet would overflow but she still had to use it. Judith was scared of falling sick. Pray for families like Judith’s who suffer from poor sanitary conditions.
Tuesday 19 November
‘I had to walk around and have everyone look at me looking dirty,’ says Judith. ‘My classmates used to make fun of me for always coming late.’ Pray that God would comfort Judith and help her recover from the indignity.
Wednesday 20 November
Our local partner, TASTE Nigeria, held water and sanitation training at Judith’s school. The training shared vital messages about personal hygiene and keeping the toilet clean. Pray for our partner to make an even greater impact across the region to help more schools and communities like Judith’s.
Thursday 21 November
Ask God to bless each person who has twinned a toilet and helped make a way for families to access safety and dignity. Pray that many more would be moved and inspired to make a difference in the lives of people at risk from not having access to a safe toilet.
Friday 22 November
‘If there's a toilet, children are safe and they can go and do what they have to do without being frightened.’ says Margaret from Golborne, near Wigan. Margaret and her friends heard about Toilet Twinning at their church and saved money to donate and twin their toilet. Praise God for kind and generous supporters like Margaret and her friends!
Saturday 23 November
Pray for the 3.5 billion people around the world who still do not have access to a safe, clean toilet. Ask God to protect them from the harm that comes with not having a toilet, and pray for governments to hear the voices of advocates like Tearfund and take action to ensure that communities have safe, clean facilities.
