Philippines Typhoon Emergency

Typhoon Mangkhut has now left the Philippines, having made landfall in Cagayan province, North Luzon in the early hours of Saturday morning.

At least 59 people have reportedly been killed, mostly as a result of landslides. Many houses are damaged or destroyed.

So far, reports suggest that at least 591,762 people have been affected, with the number expected to rise as the full impact is revealed.

About a third of those affected are farmers, and there has been significant loss of both rice and corn crops, which were due to be harvested in the coming weeks.

Local partners are making a rapid assessment of the situation and are working to provide immediate relief to those affected. The focus has been on water and sanitation, food, and other essential items. There are also plans in place to provide psychosocial support to children and young people who have been affected by the crisis.

Please pray for all those affected.
