David McAllister, Tearfund’s Country Director for DRC, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List for services to alleviating poverty in central Africa.
Commenting on the award David said, “The recognition of an MBE is very humbling. I am proud as it recognises the years I have spent helping to alleviate poverty among some of the poorest people on earth, living in a country that has been experiencing conflict for years.”
David, 65, was born in Congo, where his parents were missionaries for 40 years. Whilst a child he experienced two major rebellions, was taken hostage and rescued by mercenaries. It was during this time that he felt strongly that he wanted to work in DRC to continue the work of his parents.
David is married to Sabine and they have four children, Daniel (35) Philip (33) Patrick (30 and Christina (28). They have lived in Congo and Kenya for over 20 years.
