We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic deaths of two Tearfund aid workers who were killed in an attack in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday 30th June 2024. The staff members were travelling in a convoy that had arrived in Butembo from Lubero when they were attacked and killed. Tearfund unequivocally condemns this horrific attack on humanitarian aid staff who were working selflessly to serve the people of the DRC. Tearfund is a non-political aid agency providing humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable communities in the DRC. Our priority now is to provide support to the families of our deceased colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. We are also working closely with the local authorities to ensure the safety and security of our remaining staff in the country. We call on all parties in the DRC to respect and protect aid workers, as mandated under international law, and to ensure their safety as they carry out their vital mission.
