Nigel Harris has announced that he will be leaving the Christian international development charity, Tearfund, at the end of June 2025. Nigel has served as CEO for over nine years.
Last year, Tearfund worked with 2.9 million people directly, with a further 6 million estimated to be impacted through its church and community transformation work.
Nigel has led the charity to focus on the key role the local church can play in humanitarian response and development. He will leave Tearfund having established a bold vision to equip 250,000 churches around the world to support communities to lift themselves out of poverty.
Nigel joined Tearfund from Farm Africa in 2015, having previously worked elsewhere in the INGO and social impact sector, following an early career in banking.
The Chair of the Board, Anna Laszlo, said: “Nigel has been an extraordinary servant leader over the last nine years. With his faith, his passion for supporting those living in deepest poverty to define their own future, and his clear thinking, Nigel has led Tearfund into a place of focus and clarity on its role in a crowded market place. He will leave us with a vision that promises to transform the lives of millions around the world, through the work of the local church, supported by Tearfund.”
Nigel commented: “It has been the greatest privilege of my working life to lead this extraordinary organisation. After being a supporter for many years it has been an honour to be CEO.”
