Spend three months volunteering alongside our Tearfund partner, OESER in Bolivia.
Oeser is an educational project based in the North of Cochabamba with a school and a nursery. Many children cannot afford school in the local communities so Oeser provides grants for them to attend.
Alexander is one example. He’s just seven, but has already lost his mother to cancer. He’s got five older siblings and is looked after by his older sister while his dad works abroad in Argentina. Alexander is able to attend school because of Oeser and he works hard to keep his grades up.
OESER run a variety of innovative projects, including the creation of a cereal bar from quinoa grain called Mikuniy - Quinutrion. The project not only provides employment opportunities and life skills to socially disadvantaged people, restoring their hope and dignity, but also the profit from the sale of the cereal bars go towards OESER projects, helping the organisation to become self-sufficient.
OESER also work with children from the local prison. The law in Bolivia states that children under 6 years old can live with their parent in their prison cell while they serve their sentence. OESER collect and return the children to the prison each day so they can access education and develop socially.
You will have an amazing opportunity to live with a host family in the local community. This will be a wonderful way to connect more closely with the culture and build relationships.
So, are you ready?
Three months in Bolivia will both challenge you personally and stretch your faith. You will experience how the local church is at the heart of tackling poverty and injustice and have the chance to show God’s love in practical ways as you visit and learn from inspirational communities.
Who are we looking for?
Individuals who are flexible and adaptable and would love the chance to spend a three months living in Bolivia, working in a team, alongside other volunteers and OESER staff.
