Clean spring water can be made dirty from the waste of animals and humans who defecate near to the spring. Septic systems and fuel tanks close to the spring can also contaminate the water, as can pesticides, fertilizers and industrial waste.
But if a natural spring is protected well, it will provide a long-term source of clean and safe water for drinking, cooking and other household use.
