We are facing a global rubbish problem, and the rapid growth of single-use plastics has made this crisis worse.

It’s fuelling our throwaway culture, threatening the lives of people living in poverty and accelerating the climate emergency. But we do not need to conform to the patterns of this world: we can act now, change our habits and reduce our own waste.

Every action, big or small, makes a difference. Join us by taking part in our Rubbish Challenge to reduce your plastic waste and use of single-use plastics for a month (or longer if you can)!

Over the next month, why not pledge to do one of the following?

  • Make five permanent plastic-free swaps such as using a shampoo bar, using a reusable water bottle and coffee cup, or changing to refillable washing-up liquid.
  • Reduce your rubbish as much as you can by buying loose fruit and vegetables as opposed to those wrapped in plastic, taking a reusable container to the deli section in your supermarket instead of buying meat or cheese with plastic packaging, or using refill shops.
  • Turn a room in your house single-use plastic free by replacing things with plastic packaging in your kitchen, bathroom or bedroom with reusable, refillable or recyclable alternatives.

Or, you could come up with your own challenge and share it with us by emailing [email protected]

Make your pledge and add your voice to our rubbish petition, then share your action and progress with us on social media using #RubbishChallenge. You can also find tips and ideas for completing your challenge below.
