Overview
Brazil is listed among the ten most unequal countries in the world. This inequality has worsened due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, an economic crisis, a record rate of unemployment, an increasing number of school dropouts, and a return to the UN hunger map. Meanwhile, the flow of migrants and refugees into Brazil continues, due to economic and political crises in neighbouring countries.
The climate crisis has affected the most vulnerable communities with the increase in periods of drought and floods.
