What is Tearfund’s approach to tackling extreme poverty?
Last year alone, Tearfund worked with more than 3.3 million of the world’s most marginalised people to help them move out of poverty, for good. We respond to extreme poverty just as Jesus shows us. By going to the world’s most marginalised and exploited people, and showing our love through action.
Love through action
We help people meet urgent needs:
- food
- clean water
- safety
We also help people move beyond everyday survival so they can build the future they want for themselves and their community.
How we do this
Tearfund works alongside communities over the long term, building lasting partnerships with local churches and community organisations. Because they know their communities best. They understand the causes of poverty and how those causes shape people's lives.
Every Tearfund intervention is led by the people it serves: their needs, their knowledge, their skills. They lead the work and make the decisions.
