Bumpy roads and bright futures
In Cecile’s village in Burundi, access to healthcare was an urgent need. Women like Cecile had to travel for three hours to make the 7 mile journey to give birth, and the road out of their village was bumpy and uneven.
But thanks to training and support from Tearfund, her community was inspired to raise funds and build a new health centre in their village. After years of hard work it’s finally ready, and Cecile was overjoyed to be the first woman to give birth there.
'What a joy for me to be able to deliver without having to travel miles,' Cecile says.
