Where is Honduras?

Honduras is a country in Central America

Our impact

Overview

Corruption, inequality, violent crime and frequent natural disasters have made Honduras one of the most dangerous and least developed countries in Latin America. The coronavirus pandemic has put a massive strain on an already weak health system, and the economical consequences of the crisis have pushed more people into poverty.

Our work in Honduras

Tearfund began working in Honduras in the 1970s in response to hurricanes and the influx of refugees from neighbouring civil wars. We began community development work in the late 1980s in some of the most remote and marginalised regions.

Today, we work through several local partner organisations. Together, we are committed to strengthening marginalised communities and training and equipping churches to tackle local problems.

We continue to support churches in their response to emergencies caused by natural disasters, such as Hurricanes Eta and Iota which tore through Honduras in November 2020 destroying homes, infrastructure and crops.

We are also committed to supporting the most vulnerable children and young people by equipping churches to support them and raising awareness of child abuse.

Please pray for Honduras

    • Pray for an end to corruption and violent crime. Ask that those in positions of authority will use their power to promote justice for all.
    • Ask God to protect children from violence and abuse, and pray that more churches will be equipped to provide a safe space and support for them.
    • Pray for churches to continue working in partnership with their communities to solve local problems and help people lift themselves out of poverty.
