For years, conflict and a changing climate have ravaged South Sudan. As a result, extreme poverty continues to devastate and displace people and communities. People are returning to lost homes and livelihoods.

To respond to the needs of communities like Isaac’s in South Sudan, we developed Transforming Communities, an innovative programme run through local churches to tackle extreme poverty.
We believe it’s possible to end extreme poverty by training local churches to lead lasting change by recognising the God-given resources in and around us. This supports communities to rewrite their own stories and rebuild their lives, creating a future filled with hope and opportunity.
Isaac is one of over 4 million people displaced from their homes in South Sudan.
He was among the last to evacuate due to ongoing conflict, with no choice but to flee his home to neighbouring Uganda.
In 2020, he returned to find his house had been burnt down.
With nowhere to turn, Isaac made his way to church. He was given food, accommodation, counselling and a new start through Transforming Communities.
‘One of the things I learnt is that God provided us with resources in creation. The money I get from selling fruit helps to pay for my children to go to school. The church gave me the courage to forget about the horrors of the past and focus on starting a new chapter.’ Isaac
Learning that God had blessed him with provisions in and around him, Isaac was able to build back stronger. There are millions of families like Isaac's in South Sudan and beyond who need that same chance.
