This week, pray for projects in Bangladesh that are supporting communities to overcome poverty and embrace self-reliance. Ask God to bless Tearfund’s work providing emergency water and sanitation in Rohingya camps, establishing self-help groups and providing innovative income-generating projects using local resources.

Sunday 22 February

Reshma, from Keyabunia village, struggled to provide for her family. After joining a self-help group, supported by Tearfund partner Shalom, she learnt about smart agriculture and transformed her chicken garden into a thriving vegetable patch. Pray for continued progress in empowering individuals like Reshma to overcome poverty.

Monday 23 February

The Resilient Coastal Communities of Bangladesh project, run by Shalom, hopes to reach 1,500 families like Reshma’s to help them become more self-sufficient through learning new skills. Pray for the expansion of such transformative initiatives into new areas and for more people to experience their life-changing effects. Ask for continued guidance, resources and faithful facilitators for this project.

Tuesday 24 February

Aaroti discovered a new source of income through Tearfund’s partner the Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB)’s resilience project, where she learnt how to produce fibre from banana bark and pineapple leaves. Thank God for the opportunities that arise from using local resources.

Wednesday 25 February

Tondra, from Hatilate village, also found employment through training from CCDB on how to make yarn from fruit fibres. Tondra has ambitions to set up a spinning business in future, to earn more by increasing the number of machines. Pray that Tondra’s plans to increase production will become a reality.

Thursday 26 February

Asif, an unemployed young man from Gubodia village, was also trained to produce yarn from fruit fibres. He now earns enough extra income to buy a processing plant to turn them into environmentally friendly products, including rugs, mugs and mats. Give thanks for the positive impact of projects that provide alternative sources of income.

Friday 27 February

Nearly one million stateless Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, who fled violence in Myanmar, continue to face challenging living conditions in overcrowded camps. Yet, amid these difficulties, Tearfund is bringing hope through practical means. Pray for Tearfund’s ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and help prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.

Saturday 28 February

‘People are losing hope, but Tearfund is giving hope,’ says Clarence Sutharshan, Tearfund’s Country Director for Bangladesh. ‘We are sacrificing ourselves and contributing to building the kingdom of God.’ We ask for your continued guidance and protection over the work of our staff and partners in Bangladesh, and for the communities and churches they serve.
