Mary’s vision for the future

After being displaced due to civil war in South Sudan, Mary returned home with her family to find her house had been ransacked and burnt down. She had to rebuild her entire life. Her local church helped her when she was at her lowest, and invited her to attend Tearfund’s life-changing training. Training made possible thanks to generous supporters like you.

Mary saw a vision for her future – where her children could go to school, her crops could withstand extreme weather, and her community would unite to tackle the challenges of extreme poverty.

Through Tearfund’s work with her local church, Mary gained the skills she needed to make this vision a reality. And she didn’t stop there. She formed a self-help group and shared her knowledge and skills with more women, proving that one transformed life can transform many more.

But where would Mary be without this vision and training? She would have no home. No income to provide for her children. And little hope for the future.

This is the reality for thousands more people like Mary who can’t see a way out of extreme poverty.
