Nepal Floods Appeal: how you can help

On the morning of 26 August, while parents were preparing breakfast and people were getting ready for the day, catastrophic flash floods and mudslides tore through Nepal.

Many families and communities have lost everything. Loved ones are missing. Homes have been destroyed. Livelihoods gone.

So far, at least 540 have been killed. With more than 1,500 people still missing, that figure is expected to rise.

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with people working around the clock to locate survivors and reunite them with their families. But there’s still an immense need for emergency medical treatment, food and water, and shelter.

Your gift today will help Tearfund and our local partners reach and help those who have lost everything.

Will you show Jesus' love to those in crisis?

How Tearfund is responding

Our partners are working hard to address the needs of families and communities impacted to coordinate relief efforts and respond alongside local authorities.

Three of Tearfund’s local partners are already in affected areas assessing the greatest needs and how best to respond. Over 50,000 people have been directly affected and are in need of emergency assistance. With bridges collapsed and roads swamped, there’s a desperate need to provide emergency supplies and shelter to survivors who are cut off.

A message from Pranaya Chhetri, Tearfund's Nepal Country Director

As well as the damage and devastation that’s already been done, there’s an overwhelming sense of fear in the community. Pranaya Chhetri, Tearfund’s Nepal Country Director, told us:

‘People have seen their families, homes and communities swept away right in front of them. People are terrified that secondary flash flooding could strike at any time. Nowhere feels safe.’

There is a small chance that we receive more funds than this crisis requires, or that some funds cannot be used in full towards this response. If that happens, your donation will be used to respond where the need is greatest around the world.
