Unsafe water takes children’s lives

Every day, unsafe water causes severe illness and death for thousands of small children around the world.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), mothers like Rose, pictured, have already been through the unimaginable. They have shielded their children from the violence of the war. Held them through chaos and loss. And carried them to what should be safety.

But after all that, their children are still at grave risk from unsafe water. A single sip of unsafe water can shut down a small body. It can break fragile systems from the inside. It is a slow, painful crisis for a child’s body – and it is costing three times more lives than the violence in countries affected by conflict around the world.

When a mother has already done the unimaginable for their child, we cannot sit back and let their child be taken from them by unsafe water. We must act with love, just as Jesus showed us.

Will you let your love flow? You could help bring life-saving essentials to families around the world.

You can help children survive

To save her children, Rose has fled the war in the DRC four times in three years. She has shielded them from violence, but she can’t protect them from unclean water.

‘You cannot imagine the extent of our hardship,’ she says. ‘We fled with nothing. Our children [were] on the brink of death.’

But with donations from supporters like you, Tearfund is providing clean water and safe sanitation to families like Rose’s who have already survived the impossible.

Clean water saves lives

‘The church members then informed us that Tearfund would provide us with clean water,’ says Rose. ‘It is precious to us. We use it for bathing, washing our children, doing laundry, and even drinking.

‘As parents, this water helps us immensely. When we drink it, we feel at ease.’

Will you let your love flow? Tearfund is working with mothers like Rose around the world to protect their children from waterborne diseases.

Your gift today could help meet the needs of more families around the world. Please give today.
