How to use the free will service

Face-to-face with a solicitor

Tearfund has partnered with the National Free Wills Network to enable you to write or update a simple will* for free. The National Free Wills Network has a network of solicitors across the UK and our partnership with them ensures that there is no cost to you when writing or updating a simple will.

1. Register below to receive a Free Wills pack and list of your local solicitors.
2. Once you receive your pack, please select a solicitor from the list, and contact them directly to book an appointment at a time convenient for you.
3. At the solicitor’s appointment, please remember to take the declaration form enclosed in your pack.

Please note we're unable to send Free Wills packs to the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Write your will online or by phone

Tearfund has also partnered with the expert will-writing service Octopus Legacy to offer you the opportunity to make a simple will* for free either online or by phone.

• If you live in England or Wales, the entire process can be done online by visiting the Octopus Legacy website.
• If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, or would prefer to talk directly with a solicitor, you can call 0800 773 4014. Just quote ‘Tearfund Free’ over the phone.

*A simple Will is determined by each solicitor’s firm. If your Will exceeds this simple criteria as defined by the solicitor, they will discuss a fee with you before proceeding.
