After many years of tension, Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Troops poured in from multiple sides. The violence shattered lives, leaving families homeless and traumatised. Since then, Tearfund has supported local church partners in Ukraine and Moldova to respond to people’s physical and emotional needs. This week, pray for healing for families caught up in the conflict.
Sunday 10 November
Through Tearfund’s network, our emergency support has reached more than 122,000 people. This includes providing hot meals, warm clothes and clean water, which sends a message of love and encouragement to those who have lost everything. Pray for our partners and churches to reach people in greatest need.
Monday 11 November
Anna, from a Tearfund church partner in Ukraine, believes that God is helping her through this difficult time. ‘I can see God at work, strengthening me, my team and the people I work with,’ she says. Lift up Anna and her team to God and ask him to continue to strengthen them and give them peace in their hearts.
Tuesday 12 November
‘Blessed are those whose strength is in you... As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.’ (Psalm 84:5–6)
‘I now understand clearly that even when we go through the valley of death, God is so good to us,’ Anna explains. ‘Through his word, we have this encouragement.’ Use these verses that are an inspiration to Anna to inspire your prayers today for peace in Ukraine.
Wednesday 13 November
When it became too dangerous to stay in Ukraine, Kateryna took her children and fled to seek shelter in Moldova. She was provided with support from Tearfund partner Beginning of Life. ‘We are so grateful for the timely support,’ Kateryna says. ‘It was heartwarming that you helped us so quickly and responsively.’ Pray for families like Kateryna, who – despite finding safety and support – would love to return home.
Thursday 14 November
Nadiia and her daughter, Maria, were guests at a Tearfund-hosted International Women’s Day event, Tears of Gold. After conflict began in Ukraine, they fled to the UK. ‘I'm very grateful for the support of people... When we left our home, we never dreamed this would happen.’ Give thanks for the many UK Christians who have welcomed Ukrainian refugees into their communities.
Friday 15 November
When asked about whether other refugees in the world should be welcomed, Maria said: ‘No one deserves this, no matter where you are in the world. The most honest answer would be that no one should have to face this.’ Pray that more people in the UK would be filled with compassion for refugees fleeing conflict.
Saturday 16 November
Lord God, we lift up Anna, Kateryna, Nadiia, Maria and all those whose lives have been displaced and traumatised by the conflict in Ukraine. We cry out for peace and reconciliation so that families can live their lives free from fear. Amen.
