Tearfund is active in 15 West African countries including Burkina Faso, Chad, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. These countries are facing significant instability due to the rise of terrorism, an increase in coup attempts and challenges to democracy. This week, pray for families striving to escape poverty amid these unstable conditions.
Sunday 26 January
Burkina Faso's humanitarian crisis leaves 6.3 million people in need, including many displaced children. Pray for God's help, comfort and healing for those suffering. Pray for access to food, water, medical care, for wisdom for leaders addressing the crisis and for peace and stability in the country.
Monday 27 January
In Chad, Tearfund is working to bring evangelical federations together to impact communities through the church. Pray that church members value efforts to build positive relationships, create an enriching environment for studying God's word, and encourage open sharing of opinions. Ask that members will see the importance of these efforts and actively engage in them.
Tuesday 28 January
Pray for unity and wisdom as discussions continue regarding a formal written agreement for Transforming Communities projects with trainers and facilitators in Ivory Coast. Pray for effective engagement with the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Ivory Coast, particularly its youth department. May God guide decisions that lead to fruitful outcomes and partnerships.
Wednesday 29 January
Torrential rains in Bla, Mali, caused severe damage in July last year. More than 9,000 people were affected, and 1,587 houses collapsed. Several buildings and infrastructure were also damaged or destroyed. Pray for comfort, healing and relief for affected families and communities as they continue to recover.
Thursday 30 January
Thank God for the successful remobilisation meeting of the Transforming Communities facilitators in Niger and for the effectiveness of the Training of Trainers programme. Pray for people and churches affected by the floods after extended and heavy rains last year.
Friday 31 January
Pray for those affected by the sharp increase in food prices in Nigeria. Ask for God’s provision for families struggling to afford basic necessities. Pray for wisdom for policymakers and leaders to address the economic challenges and inflationary pressures. Ask for strategies to alleviate the burden on the most vulnerable populations, especially in border states.
Saturday 1 February
Pray for the ongoing Transforming Communities work run through churches across two more countries, Senegal and Guinea. Pray that the work will bring about whole-life transformation in families and communities. Ask that the scale-up project for the new local churches and the training sessions will be successful.
