Our work in Bangladesh through the local church is supporting communities to rewrite their own stories and build a future filled with hope and opportunity. This week, pray for the incredible income-generating activities making a big difference to vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.
Sunday 23 March
‘May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.’ Spend a moment meditating on this verse from Psalm 90:17. Lord, we thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Thank you for the gifts you have given us and the new skills that we can learn. Amen.
Monday 24 March
‘I was trying to find a way to uplift my helplessness,’ says Reshma. After her husband's death, Reshma was left to look after her three children. Lord, we lift to you widows like Reshma who suddenly find themselves running the family and covering all the expenses alone. Amen.
Tuesday 25 March
Tearfund’s partner in Bangladesh invited Reshma to join a self-help group and from there she learnt how to save and establish multiple sources of income. Reshma began a tea stall, received seeds and started a vegetable garden. And that’s not all – during the fishing season, she catches fish. Lord, we thank you for your incredible planet that provides for all our needs. Amen.
Wednesday 26 March
Nurjahan has three children. Every month, the family struggled to cover the school fees, but she was desperate for her children to continue their education. Through Tearfund’s partner in Bangladesh, Nurjahan received a loan from a self-help group. Praise God that the family now runs a thriving tea stall and her children can continue to study.
Thursday 27 March
‘Bible study has saved my spiritual life and tailoring work has changed my financial condition. I am very grateful,’ says Shila. Through Tearfund’s Transforming Communities programme, Shila joined a tailoring workshop and Bible study group run by Tearfund’s partner in Bangladesh. Pray that many more people's spiritual and material lives will be changed through Transforming Communities.
Friday 28 March
A simple vegetable garden, cultivated with hard work and commitment, has transformed Tuli’s life. ‘Poverty makes us helpless,’ says Tuli. Praise God that Tuli’s family no longer has to risk borrowing from money lenders because, thanks to her self-help group, Tuli has the tools and the knowledge to grow vegetables.

Lord, we lift each of these businesses to you. We thank you for tea stalls, vegetable gardens, tailoring and fishing. We pray for your protection over each enterprise. Lord, we pray that in moments of scarcity, your presence will be felt. And in moments of tiredness, there will be an abundance of energy. Amen.
