An East African nation famous for its diverse wildlife, Kenya continues to struggle with poverty. This week, pray for the local church and our partners to help alleviate these challenges, promote development and provide access to basic services through Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training.
Sunday 6 April
Mukuru is an informal settlement in Nairobi, Kenya, with a population of around 700,000. Residents face challenges such as poverty, crime, insecurity, child abuse, and limited access to healthcare and sanitation. Lord, we lift up Mukuru to you and ask that our partners and local churches can reach people in greatest need. Amen.
Monday 7 April
Tearfund partners in Kenya are working with local churches to address issues of poverty and hunger through education, food provision, counselling and child protection projects. Pray that more local churches will take part in Transforming Communities training so that more families can lift themselves out of poverty.
Tuesday 8 April
‘It is not by our power nor by our strength, but by the Lord’s Spirit. For he has called us to be vessels for him to use and has placed us where we are for a reason,’ says Josephine, a Transforming Communities trainer in Mukuru. Pray that Josephine will be instrumental in bringing about transformation through the churches she is training.
Wednesday 9 April
Join with the team in Mukuru in prayer today: ‘Praise almighty God for the educational opportunities he has given the children in our community. Pray for the provision of school fees, especially for vulnerable children who have not gone back to school because their parents can’t afford school fees. Amen.’
Thursday 10 April
Bethroser, a village chief in Ngaru, Kerugoya County in Kenya, has brought about significant transformation in her community. After being trained in Transforming Communities, Bethroser has helped her village start development projects and bring about a spirit of unity and resourcefulness. ‘We are the experts to respond to our situations,’ Bethroser says. Give thanks for amazing leaders like Bethroser today.
Friday 11 April
‘One of the lessons we learnt is that resources are within us if we look hard,’ says Bethroser. ‘That is the good news I have been preaching to my village elders and community members.’ Pray for more opportunities for leaders like Bethroser to give a new vision to their communities.
Saturday 12 April
Lord, we lift up Kenya to you, a country still struggling with poverty and inequality. Help local churches raise up more inspirational and determined trainers and facilitators like Josephine and Bethroser so that more communities will take part in Transforming Communities programmes. Amen.
