Hope FM is a radio station from the Diocese of Kajo-Keji, South Sudan. It broadcasts in English, Bari, Madi and simple Arabic. It’s a brilliant way to highlight the activities of the diocese and encourage peace and unity in Kajo-Keji and the neighbouring counties. This week, pray for the radio station’s success in promoting Tearfund’s Transforming Communities work.

Sunday 25 May

Civil war in South Sudan forced more than a million people to flee across the border to Uganda. The fighting started in 2016 and continued until a peace agreement was accepted in September 2018. Kajo-Keji is situated in the far south of the country, near the border with Uganda. When the conflict reached there, Hope FM was forced to close in February 2017, but praise God it was able to restart in April 2021.

Monday 26 May

‘The radio station plays a very important role: promoting peaceful coexistence, letting people know about the peace agreement,’ says Charles Wani, Kajo-Keji county Press Secretary. ‘It also helps to encourage refugees to return home and prevents misinformation.’ Pray that the message of peace will be taken into the hearts of listeners.

Tuesday 27 May

Joseph Loku fled with his family to Uganda. ‘When we were refugees, we found that life was so hard,’ he says. ‘I stayed in the camp from 2017 to 2019. And in 2020, I decided to come back home.’ Give thanks that, having been through the programme himself, Joseph is now the host of Tearfund’s Transforming Communities hour.

Wednesday 28 May

Transforming Communities hour is broadcast every Wednesday at 7pm. Joseph is keen to tell others about the life-changing results of Transforming Communities. ‘When I had the training, it really changed my life,’ he says. ‘I started making bricks. I now have around 10,000 to rebuild my home.’ Pray that his broadcasts will inspire others to begin transforming their lives.

Thursday 29 May

Joseph is keen for the empowering message of Transforming Communities to be spread far and wide. ‘I am encouraged when people are transformed because of the message I give them on the radio,’ he says. ‘I believe those people will also transform others. Because when two people in a community are transformed, the whole community can be.’ Pray for the multiplication of this transformation.

Friday 30 May

Julius, age 58, fled to Uganda with his family, returning to Kajo-Keji in 2021. He is an avid listener to Transforming Communities hour, taking a 40-minute round trip to find a signal at night. ‘My prayer for my family is for peace in my country,’ he says. ‘Let there be lasting peace.’ Pray that the peace agreement will continue so that South Sudanese families can rebuild their lives.

Saturday 31 May

Join in prayer today with radio host Joseph: ‘Lord, you said if we knock, you will open for us. We are knocking on your door, Lord, asking to increase the coverage of the radio. When we have a longer antenna, we’ll reach out to more people and transform them. Amen.’
