This week, pray for countries across Latin America. Tearfund has been working in this region for more than 54 years and continues to equip and encourage the church towards community and social transformation.
Sunday 10 August
Let’s pray today for organisations that Tearfund is supporting in Latin America that are committed to mobilising young Christians to drive social change and transformation. Lord, as they commit to working with the next generation, may they see strong leaders rise up – leaders who love and honour you. Amen.
Monday 11 August
Six friends from Colombia, skilled in farming and dedicated to environmental sustainability, are transforming the raw materials they cultivate, such as honey and cocoa, into high-quality products for sale. Pray for these young men as they develop the SinúMiel company and tend to God’s creation.
Tuesday 12 August
Today is International Youth Day, raising awareness of the need to engage with young people. Isaí, one of the leaders of the Tearfund Latin America youth network, spearheads the SinúMiel company. ‘This initiative was born and strengthened as a result of the launch of the youth network in Colombia,’ explains Isaí. ‘I gained confidence and returned to my region with the desire to be an agent of change.’ Pray that members of the youth network will bring transformation to many communities.
Wednesday 13 August
In the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia, 700 tonnes of waste are processed daily in the landfill site. One of the huge waste products is plastic. The Tearfund youth network wants to see a drastic change. Lord, we pray for strength as churches and communities rise up to tackle plastic waste in their communities. Amen.
Thursday 14 August
‘The church must go out and do political advocacy and must also promote the issue of taking care of the environment because God is asking us to take care of creation,’ says María, a
member of the Tearfund youth network in Bolivia. Lord, we pray that as the church speaks out on plastic waste, new recycling habits will form. Amen.
Friday 15 August
‘This is the only place where rubbish turns into a broom,’ explains Jhonny Maman from Tarija in Bolivia. ‘A transformation from waste to recycling to the circular economy.’ Praise God that this committed team in Bolivia is transforming plastic waste into a new item that is ready
to be used.
Saturday 16 August
As we end this week of prayer, join the Tearfund team in Latin America as they pray for the region’s children: ‘Lord we ask that you protect their lives, grant them peace and hope, and inspire churches, communities and leaders to work together to eradicate violence and build a safer and more just future for them. Amen.’
