This week, pray for the people of Burkina Faso and the transformative work of Tearfund and our partners in the country. Ask God to continue blessing efforts to build resilience, strengthen communities, and bring training and support to people who need it most.
Sunday 1 February
Give thanks for the Tearfund-supported FARA Economic and Agroecological Resilience Project, set up by the Office for the Development of Evangelical Churches, which has had a profound impact. The project trains farmers like Barkissa in better agricultural methods to increase yields.
Monday 2 February
Barkissa says, ‘Our group needs water, a tractor and a rice mill.’ Lord, you are our provider. Open the way for communities to have access to the water, equipment and infrastructure that will enable them to succeed. Amen.
Tuesday 3 February
‘We struggled to send our kids to school,’ says Kanyili. ‘Two of my children had to drop out because we couldn't afford it.’ Pray for Burkina Faso’s farmers who face hardship, even unable to send their children to school. Give thanks for the agricultural training that transformed Kanyili’s family’s future, and pray that others facing similar struggles find the help and knowledge to thrive.
Wednesday 4 February
‘The change is very visible,’ says Sawadogo, president of a Tearfund-supported local farming cooperative. ‘Each member now earns more than they did before. Besides the knowledge gained, everyone has been able to acquire material goods they couldn’t afford before.’ Pray that this knowledge would be passed down to future generations, ensuring a lasting legacy of resilience and flourishing.
Thursday 5 February
Pray for the Tearfund-supported community programmes that aim to bring displaced people and host communities together in Burkina Faso. Before these groups were formed, community leader Lamoukiri says that ‘Each group operated independently, which hindered social cohesion, as individuals were reluctant to collaborate.’ Lord, we pray for continued unity and cooperation between those displaced by conflict. Amen.
Friday 6 February
Lord, we thank you for the Transforming Communities savings and loans groups that are changing lives. Ouedraogo says, ‘We are grateful to the project for opening our eyes to these opportunities.’ Pray for all the new initiatives that are taking hold across Burkina Faso. Bless every cooperative, every savings group and every community.
Saturday 7 February
Lord, we pray for improved income for individuals and communities. We bring before you women like Damoye, who felt dependent and helpless before joining a Tearfund-supported savings and loans group. We thank you that she can say, ‘I’m now joyful and confident.’ We ask you to open doors for more people to join these groups. Amen.
