The Act Now, Change Forever event at Westminster, London, in July last year invited people to join together to call for a fairer, more stable and resilient future. This week, following the UN Climate Change Conference in Belém last November, pray for ongoing momentum to care for God’s creation and communities badly affected by climate change.
Sunday 8 February
The Act Now, Change Forever mass lobby brought together more than 5,000 people from multiple organisations with a demand for government action on the climate crisis. Pray for unity among Christians and other organisations working for climate justice and nature restoration. Pray that our combined witness would be powerful.
Monday 9 February
Many Tearfund supporters who attended the lobby found that their MPs were open to continuing conversations. Pray for the ongoing discussions between supporters and their MPs, asking that these would bear fruit in the months ahead and lead to policy commitments with tangible benefits for people living in extreme poverty.
Tuesday 10 February
Tearfund supporter PJ Charters says that his love for his grandkids motivated him to attend the lobby, saying, ‘I kept thinking, what kind of future are my grandkids going to have?’ Pray for the younger generations who will inherit our world and for the example many of them set in passionate care for our planet.
Wednesday 11 February
‘It’s not just about people’s souls or their bellies, but about caring for the whole world we live in,’ PJ says. Pray for Tearfund staff and supporters as they advocate for an ambitious vision of justice and care for creation. Ask that their efforts continue to inspire and bring about positive change.
Thursday 12 February
The struggle for climate justice continues in our daily lives – in our gardens, our kitchen cupboards, our conversations and our small acts of love for creation. Pray for guidance and strength to be faithful in these everyday actions. Ask God to help you see the eternal value in the choices you make today, giving you his hope for tomorrow.
Friday 13 February
PJ’s support for Tearfund is rooted in his faith. ‘I truly believe God cares about this world,’ he says. Pray that more people would be motivated by God’s care for our world to take action, demonstrating love and compassion to communities suffering the worst consequences of the climate crisis.
Saturday 14 February
Lord God, we thank you for the passion and dedication of everyone involved in Act Now, Change Forever. We pray that you would help us build a wider movement that cares for creation and each other. Through our prayers and actions, would we be witnesses of your restoration story, bringing hope to those around us. Amen.
