This week, we turn our hearts and prayers towards South Sudan. Ask for God’s blessing upon Tearfund’s vital programmes there, that they will continue to bring hope and lasting transformation to communities. May this important work multiply, extending its reach to many more vulnerable people.
Sunday 1 March
Lord, we thank you for the communities in Mundri County who, through Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training, established the Teachers’ Union Nursery and Primary School. Thank you for their initiative in building a school with local materials and for the nearly 600 students who now have access to education. Lord, we pray for the continued success and growth of this school. Amen.
Monday 2 March
Pray for the young people of South Sudan. ‘We have a very young population, and if we can tap into that, it is a very powerful force for peace and prosperity,’ says Erickson Bisetsa, Tearfund’s South Sudan Country Director. Pray that they will be empowered and supported to lead their communities towards a brighter future.
Tuesday 3 March
Pray for the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, exacerbated by climate change, conflict and disease. Lord, we pray for the more than 7 million people experiencing food insecurity and for the many internally displaced people and refugees. We ask for divine intervention and for resources to reach those in greatest need. Amen.
Wednesday 4 March
Praise God for inspirational leaders like Pere, who, after experiencing trauma, found purpose through Tearfund’s Transforming Communities programme. He started a church and an adult literacy centre, which now educates 237 people. ‘The programme has helped reduce suicide cases and transform lives by promoting holistic human transformation and empowering individuals,’ Pere says. Pray that more adults will join the programme.
Thursday 5 March
Pray for the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda in South Sudan. Lord, we pray for the prevention of conflict and violence against women and girls, for their increased participation in peacebuilding and for their protection from gender-based violence. Amen.
Friday 6 March
Through the Transforming Communities training, Emmanuel, who once struggled with alcohol, found a new path. He is taking part in Tearfund-supported training and is now contributing to his community. He’s learning skills like construction, beekeeping and farming, and has improved his relationship with his wife. Pray for more individuals to experience such a profound transformation.
Saturday 7 March
Lord, we thank you for the dedication of teachers like Emmanuel Kenyi Kwaji, headteacher of New Vision Nursery and Primary School. The Transforming Communities training inspired his community to open a school to address bad behaviours and trauma. We pray for more communities to be inspired to create educational opportunities for their children. Amen.
