Poverty in the Central African Republic (CAR) is a significant issue, with many families struggling to find a stable income. This week, as we reflect on Holy Week, pray for people in CAR who are being inspired by their faith to undertake training to overcome the challenges they face.
Sunday 29 March
‘I feel like I’m no longer free and I don’t know what to do,’ says Julia, whose husband is not helping to care for their child. Lord God, as we remember the burdens carried on the cross, we lift up all those troubled with worry about their future. Grant them the peace that surpasses all understanding, knowing that even in darkness, new life emerges. Amen.
Monday 30 March
‘I’ve learnt a lot of good things, including how to knit napkins. This has helped me pay my school fees,’ says Julia, who is learning new skills through a Tearfund-supported literacy centre to help create a better life for herself and her son. Lord, as we celebrate the new life of Easter, we pray for women like Julia who are using their skills and determination to seek a better life. Amen.
Tuesday 31 March
‘Without education, it’s very hard to achieve as much as women. It also gives you confidence,’ says Julia. Lord, in the spirit of Easter’s renewal, we pray for all young people. Inspire them to value their education, and empower them with the confidence to pursue their goals and achieve their full potential, just as Christ empowers us with new life. Amen.
Wednesday 1 April
‘Everything we receive from Tearfund is shared with our family first before moving forward, and all the children are involved in the process,’ says Esther, co-founder of a technical training association to empower women and support orphans. Lord, as families gather to celebrate Easter, we pray for them to work together in unity and purpose. Amen.
Thursday 2 April
‘If we get a sewing machine or support for making soap and selling our products, it will help us improve our lives,’ says Valerie, who is striving to provide for her children and find a stable home after her husband died. Lord, as we anticipate new beginnings this Easter, we pray for Tearfund’s partners. Give them the resources to provide vocational training and equipment. Amen.
Good Friday 3 April
‘I also pray that God will help me get a home for my children and find people to support me so my life gets better,’ says Valerie. Lord, as we remember the sacrifice and protection offered through Christ, we pray for widows and single mothers who are working to secure a stable home for their children. Amen.
Easter Saturday 4 April
‘The word of God that we hear preached every Sunday gives us strength... I believe all the pain I’m going through will lead to God raising me up in life,’ says Valerie. We thank you, Lord, for your word that gives strength in times of trouble. As we await the dawn of Easter, help us find comfort in the stories of faith. Amen.
