After years of dedication, the Tearfund team in Rwanda are seeing incredible success through our Transforming Communities training. This week, pray for wisdom and strength for them as they seek to bring the good news of Christ and sustainable transformation to communities living in poverty.
Sunday 12 April
Rwanda is known as the land of a thousand hills, but this mountainous terrain, years of intensive use and climate change make farming extremely challenging. Despite this, 70 per cent of the population depends on agriculture as their main source of food and income. Pray for families struggling to put food on the table and send their children to school.
Monday 13 April
Small-scale farmers and traders in Rwanda often lack access to markets and market information, meaning they often can’t sell all the crops they have grown or do not grow crops that are needed in the markets. Lord, we pray for wisdom for Tearfund Rwanda as they help farmers develop better ways to grow the right crops and sell their harvests to local, regional and international markets. Amen.
Tuesday 14 April
Tearfund’s team in Rwanda recently introduced a digital platform called E-Soko, which helps farmers find out where markets are taking place, teaches them better farming methods and offers banking support. Praise God for the incredible impact. ‘We have witnessed smallholder farmers embrace new techniques, enhance their productivity and gain access to markets that were once beyond their reach,’ says Emmanuel Murangira, Tearfund’s Country Director for Rwanda.
Wednesday 15 April
In John 10:10 it says, ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’ Use this verse to pray for the nation and people of Rwanda today. May they know the power of Christ in their lives and in the seasons ahead.
Thursday 16 April
Thomas used to live on the margins of his village, known as a thief, stealing simply to survive. But all this changed with Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training. Thomas came to know he was loved by God, received a loan to set up his own business and found joy in belonging to his community. Lord, may you give Tearfund the opportunities to reach many more people like Thomas. Amen.
Friday 17 April
Tearfund supporter Mike recently visited Tearfund’s work in Rwanda. ‘The projects bringing the extremely marginalised and challenged, whether drug dealers or prostitutes left destitute, into successful projects, yielding three crops per season with increased yields, forming a cooperative, yet still putting God at the centre... wow!’ Father, we thank you for your power at work in so many people’s lives. Amen.
Saturday 18 April
Today, ask God to lead you in prayer for marginalised and vulnerable communities in Rwanda. You could use the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9–13 as inspiration.
