This week, pray for the West African nations of Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Chad. Lift up the most vulnerable communities facing daily challenges, and give thanks for Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training that continues to bring sustainable, heartfelt change to individuals and communities.
Sunday 26 April
‘Before Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training, the feeling of loneliness was part of my life,’ says Steven from Sierra Leone. ‘Coming from a very poor background, you keep wondering to yourself: When will I make it? Who will help me in life? And sometimes you’re timid.’ Pray for people like Steven living in poverty and struggling with loneliness and fear, that they will find peace and confidence.
Monday 27 April
Steven now teaches others about Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training. ‘I can confidently stand anywhere to teach,’ he says. ‘So I’ve become an encourager and a mentor, a light-giver and comforter to those who are brokenhearted. And that is a byproduct of the entire process.’ Praise God that Steven is sharing all he has learnt with so many others.
Tuesday 28 April
On 25 July 2025, Tearfund Côte d’Ivoire hosted a strategic Media Engagement event at the national office in Abidjan to raise public awareness of Tearfund’s work alongside churches and communities. Pray that together we continue to raise voices, share hope and drive lasting transformation in Côte d’Ivoire.
Wednesday 29 April
‘I thank God that I was invited to Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training,’ says John, a father and husband from Sierra Leone. ‘I learnt from the Bible study God’s purpose for our lives.’ Father God, we pray for wisdom and new opportunities for Tearfund’s partners in West Africa as they share training that transforms lives. Amen.
Thursday 30 April
Before the training, John abused cocaine, painkillers and marijuana, resulting in difficult relations between his family and his community. Praise God for the change in John’s life and for the strength he’s finding to live free from addiction. ‘Thank you so much for giving me this wonderful opportunity,’ says John.
Friday 1 May
Lift up refugees, like 33-year-old Hamid, who fled from his home in Sudan with his wife and two children. ‘Our village was attacked, burnt,’ Hamid says. ‘The fire, the screams, the fear. Those who survived, fled.’ Lord, we pray for your abundant peace and comfort to fill the hearts of Sudanese refugees as they build new homes in Chad. Amen.
Saturday 2 May
‘Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young...’ (1 Timothy 4:12)
The Nigerian Church and Tearfund Nigeria believe that young people are being called to be the leading light for change across the nation. Musicians, such as Gaise Baba and Lawrence Oyor, are igniting the nation with their songs. Spend some time reflecting on 1 Timothy 4:12 and praying for young people in Nigeria.
