As we focus on Mozambique this week, pray for peace across the country and lift up people who have been affected by violence. Thank God for the work of our local partners and pray for wisdom as they continue to support families and individuals in need.
Sunday 19 April
Philippians 4:6–7 says, ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ Be inspired by this verse to pray for Mozambique.
Monday 20 April
Since 2017, armed attacks in northern Mozambique have forced 1 million people to flee their homes. Father God, we lift to you each of these families that have lost their homes and ways of making a living. Help Tearfund reach people in greatest need. Amen.
Tuesday 21 April
‘It all started unexpectedly – strangers suddenly arrived in our communities and started abducting people, including children,’ says Gulamo. ‘My wife and I had a two-year-old son at that time. We just had to run to get to the main road.’ Father God, may you heal the pain and bring reconciliation and peace to northern Mozambique, keeping children safe. Amen.
Wednesday 22 April
Gulamo and his family eventually found help in a resettlement centre. Through Tearfund’s partner, Gulamo, along with 50 other men and women from local communities, were trained in how to put together a business plan. Then, the group members were offered a variety of different kits to start a business with. Praise God for fresh starts and new ideas.
Thursday 23 April
Gulamo and his team received basic mechanical and technical training and were given tools to repair motorbikes – a skill that is in high demand in the community, as many people rely on them. ‘We are facing hard times,’ says Gulamo, ‘but going home with a small amount is better than taking home nothing.’ Lord, we pray for protection over Gulamo and his business. Amen.
Friday 24 April
In December 2024, the Mozambique Peace and Reconciliation Movement emerged, facilitated by Tearfund with the support of the African Christian Transformation Forum to address post-election violence. They continue their work to build peace and help people reconcile. Pray for them to have the wisdom to stay strong as they work with different, often difficult, groups.
Saturday 25 April
Join in prayer with Bishop Rodrigues Dambo, Coordinator of the Peace and Reconciliation Movement, who works for a Tearfund partner in Mozambique. ‘Lord God, we lift up Mozambique to you. We pray for unity and strength for the church as they work for peace, reconciliation, justice and transformation. Heal the wounds of violence and restore moral values among leaders and citizens. Amen.’
