Sunday 31 May
Give thanks for a church in Nepal, that stepped in to save a local primary school. When the school was on the verge of closing, the church provided a teacher’s salary. ‘I learnt how the church can set an example in the village,’ says Pastor Rohit. Lord, thank you for churches that prioritise the future of children. Amen.
Monday 1 June
Pray for the Ekata Samaj, a network of churches now working together on disaster risk reduction. After a fire destroyed four houses, these churches were the first responders. Lord, we pray for the continued unity of these church networks as they work together with local governments to save lives. Amen.
Tuesday 2 June
‘I had no hope... my husband had lost his confidence,’ says Chaya, whose family was in turmoil after an accident left her husband disabled. Give thanks for the goat-rearing business that restored their livelihood and the harmony, hope and resilience now found in their home.
Wednesday 3 June
Lord, we pray for a local church on the banks of the Bagmati River. We thank you for their initiative to combat the dengue epidemic through pest control, and for the tuition classes they provide to children. Amen.
Thursday 4 June
‘I am not weak. I have a supportive family,’ says Binay, who lost a leg in an accident. Give thanks for his transformation from a footpath seller to a store owner and leader for people with disabilities, thanks to Transforming Communities training. Pray for his new organisation, Sama Bikash Apangata Kendra, to have a great impact as it advocates for accessibility and dignity.
Friday 5 June
Lord, we lift up a Tearfund partner’s leadership workshops in Western Nepal. Pastor Tilak says, ‘We realise now that proper records, policies and accountability are very important.’ We pray that rural pastors would have access to ongoing support as they build strong, transparent churches that can better serve people living in poverty. Amen.
Saturday 6 June
Lord, please help grow the Transforming Communities programmes throughout Nepal. Give leaders the technical skills needed for lasting change, so communities can move from small beginnings to being fruitful in the long term. Amen.
