This week, pray for the people of Nigeria as they navigate a humanitarian crisis fuelled by conflict, climate change and displacement. Ask God to bless the work of Tearfund and its partners as they bring peacebuilding training, trauma healing, and training in economic resilience to communities in need.
Sunday 21 June
Give thanks for the holistic interventions in Benue and Plateau States that are restoring dignity to those who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict. Pray for the 1,800 people who have recently received support, ranging from hygiene kits to climate-smart agricultural training, helping them move from fear to stability.
Monday 22 June
Journey to Healing is a Tearfund programme for people who have experienced sexual and gender-based violence. One participant says, ‘As a result of my losses… I used to constantly have episodes of what happened resurface in my memory. It left me with so much pain and bitterness.’ Lord, we pray for the 302 people undergoing trauma counselling. Replace their pain with your peace and sustain those seeking freedom from harmful coping mechanisms. Amen.
Tuesday 23 June
‘I am now a landowner, against cultural norms,’ says Gloria. Give thanks for the Transforming Masculinities training that is changing hearts. Pray for faith leaders like the one who advocated for Gloria, that they would continue to challenge discrimination and ensure that widows and orphans are protected and empowered.
Wednesday 24 June
‘We struggled to pay school fees,’ recalls Azumi, who was married at 19 due to poverty and later faced a health crisis. Pray for women like Azumi who are battling illness and stigma. Thank God that through livelihood support, she is now paying for her own education at the National Teachers Institute. May her resilience inspire others.
Thursday 25 June
Lord, we lift up the 52 peace ambassadors and the ten peace clubs working to bridge the divide between farmers and herders. We pray for the dialogue sessions in the Middle Belt region, that ethnic and religious tensions would give way to reconciliation. May these communities find unity in their shared need for land and safety. Amen.
Friday 26 June
Lord, we thank you for the 12 self-help groups whose members are actively saving together. We bring before you Dorcas, who went from homelessness and despair to becoming a proud homeowner and landlady through her yams and livestock business. Bless these groups as they turn small savings into sustainable futures. Amen.
Saturday 27 June
We pray for the children caught in the middle of the crisis in Nigeria, like 15-year-old Jethro, who was abandoned as a baby. We thank you for providers like Agatha, whose small business was expanded with Tearfund’s support, allowing Jethro to have enhanced nutrition and consistent access to education. Open doors for more families to find this stability. Amen.
