This week, pray for the people of Honduras and the transformative work of Tearfund and our partners. Ask God to continue blessing efforts to connect the church with its neighbours, build economic resilience, and bring healing and training to families in contexts of violence.
Sunday 28 June
Give thanks for the holistic mission being lived out in neighbourhoods like Colonia Las Ayestas and Flor del Campo. Pastor Joel Rosales says, ‘We have begun to see specific actions... a church leaving behind its four walls and going out into the streets.’ Pray that the vision of the integral gospel continues to grow, restoring both the spiritual and material lives of the community.
Monday 29 June
‘Without the support of the church, my life would have been a disaster,’ says Alan, a screen printer. Lord, we thank you for the Emprende Más project and the start-up funding that allows entrepreneurs like Alan to grow. We pray for business owners as they support others, that their generosity would spark a cycle of economic improvement. Amen.
Tuesday 30 June
‘Life has been hard for me,’ says Guadalupe, who lost her children to violence and illness. ‘My shin was really swollen because the climb up [to fetch water] is really rough.’ Lord, we lift up elderly people and those living in physical pain or isolation. We pray for improved infrastructure – safe paths, lighting and clean water – and give thanks for the groups for elderly people that provide a space where people can be heard and loved. Amen.
Wednesday 1 July
‘In Flor del Campo, there was a lot of competition among the churches,’ says Pastor Mario Cantor. ‘So, we decided to bring the pastors together to promote harmony.’ Pray for the Pastoral Transforming Life group and the 15 churches now working in unity. Ask God to bless their Hands of Hope project as they lend wheelchairs and breathing machines to people in need.
Thursday 2 July
Lord, we pray for the Crecer Academy and its mission to promote peace through education. Pastor Arely Cantor notes that violence has ‘reached homes in the way children are raised, normalising aggression’. We pray for the 38 children and their mothers in the programme, that their new way of thinking will lead to a more peaceful culture for the next generation. Amen.
Friday 3 July
‘I hit him, I admit it... I yelled mean things,’ says Sandra, a young mother. ‘But thanks to the academy and the talks... I’ve been changing.’ We pray for mothers across Honduras who are breaking cycles of harsh punishment and choosing to lead with kindness. May these support groups continue to be a place where parents can unburden themselves and find the strength to raise their children with love.
Saturday 4 July
Lord, we bring before you the men of these communities. Edwin says he is trying to be ‘the father that I didn’t have growing up’ and to move away from the ‘typical macho father’ mindset. We pray that more men would be more involved in their children’s lives and committed to supporting their dreams for the future. Amen.
