The devastating impact of a catastrophic flash flood and mudslide that struck central-northern Nepal yesterday is unfolding, with at least 300 people confirmed dead and hundreds more missing—a toll expected to rise as the full scale of the disaster becomes clear.
The flooding has left a huge footprint of destruction, damaging buildings like hydropower stations, bridges, homes and roads and there are warnings of a risk of secondary flash floods in the coming days. National and local governments are actively conducting rescue and relief operations on the ground.
Tearfund is currently coordinating its response with initial rapid assessment and coordination with government and our local partners, to help provide immediate relief to people affected.
