Christians pray continually for the Middle East for 700 hours and counting

Christians from all over the UK have been praying for the conflict in the Middle East for over 700 hours.

Christians from all over the UK have been praying for the conflict in the Middle East, continually and around the clock, for over 700 hours and counting.

As the conflict escalates in the Middle East region and fear and tensions increase, the Christian relief and development agency Tearfund is asking people to join in praying continually for the region and for those who have suffered.

The continuous prayer session has been organised by Tearfund and is hosted by 24-7 Prayer. It will run until 31 October.

Safa Hijazeen, Tearfund’s Regional Director for the Middle East, said:

“The humanitarian suffering in Gaza and across the Middle East is greater than ever so it’s vital that we’re praying for the region. Tearfund’s church partners are responding with life saving aid across the Middle East but we also need to be praying for their efforts and for those who have lost everything”.

Graeme McMeekin, Head of Church and Supporter Engagement at Tearfund, said:

“This 24-7 Prayer Room is an amazing opportunity for people to respond to the Middle East conflict in continual prayer. It’s all too easy to feel powerless when we see suffering around the world, but as Christians we can pray that God would act powerfully to bring healing to the region.”

People are being encouraged to pray for:

  • Protection and provision for displaced people in Gaza, Lebanon and across the region.
  • God’s healing and comfort for those injured and bereaved due to the conflict.
  • Support and safety for churches and aid organisations working in extremely challenging environments.
  • For God’s wisdom and leadership to bring reconciliation to the region.

People can sign up to pray at: https://signup.24-7prayer.com/signup/39e092/

Tearfund is a member of the Disasters and Emergencies Committee, which has recently launched an emergency appeal for the Middle East. People can find out more about the DEC and donate at dec.org.uk
