‘Caring for the earth is, at its deepest level, a way of loving God and others.’
Yenifer, youth activist, Colombia

The climate crisis is devastating for people in poverty

We follow a God of justice and compassion who calls us to care for his creation.

That’s why we won’t be silent when thousands of the communities we work with are struggling to adapt to an unpredictable climate and food insecurity. Communities facing poverty have contributed the least to climate change, yet often suffer the most.

Hope for our planet

As we prepare for COP30, the UN climate summit, we’re calling on governments to address the climate-related issues that directly affect people in extreme poverty every day. The solutions exist, but we need political leaders to invest in them.

Will you pray with us for a climate response that restores, transforms, and brings hope at COP30?

Be inspired to take action

Where leaders are dragging their feet, young people around the world are stepping up and speaking up for God’s creation and people living in poverty.

Be inspired by them in this short video, then share it with your friends, family and church to join their call for action.

What we’ve achieved so far

What is Tearfund doing?

In November 2025, world leaders, country delegations and lobby groups will gather in Belém, Brazil for the 30th UN climate summit, COP30.

Tearfund will be attending this event to raise our prophetic voice and call on world leaders to deliver climate justice for communities facing extreme poverty around the world. We want to see:

  • Financial support for countries vulnerable to the climate crisis
  • Stronger support for communities who are vulnerable to the climate crisis
  • The voices of those most affected by the climate crisis are heard, respected, and prioritised.

Young activists are speaking up

Our colleagues in Latin America have already spent months preparing for COP30, by engaging, equipping and inspiring local churches, church leaders and youth activists.

One of these youth activists, Yenifer, says, ‘My faith is not a passive refuge, but a force that drives me to act: to speak out when others are silent, to sow hope in the midst of despair, to resist the logic of consumption and waste.’

We are delighted to be working with young people like Yenifer as we prepare and pray for an impactful climate summit in November.

‘My faith and love for my neighbours motivate me to act because they invite me to care for creation, valuing the earth as a sacred gift that we must protect.’
