Crisis upon crisis

The shockwaves from the conflict in Ukraine are reverberating around the world. Fuel and food prices are rising. We can feel that here in the UK, but it is the poorest countries and communities that will suffer most.

With attention focused on the war in Ukraine, there is a risk that the needs of millions of people will go unmet.

More than 18 million people across East Africa are experiencing severe hunger every day after the worst drought in decades. Communities in Pakistan are currently being devastated by extreme flooding. Families in Yemen are fleeing violence.

Conflict and climate change are pushing people around the world towards total disaster.

Your gift today could provide emergency relief such as food, safe water, and hygiene kits to people who are in desperate need. And, in the long term, we will continue to work through local churches so that whole communities can lift themselves out of poverty.

Going hungry

In the region of Karamoja in Uganda, thousands of people are facing severe hunger because of poor harvests. Most families are struggling to scrape together a daily meal of grains and green leaves from wild trees.

Lucia*, aged 12, had to drop out of school to help her mother feed her family by fetching firewood.

Tearfund’s local Christian partner in Uganda is distributing food – including maize flour and beans – to hundreds of families across Karamoja. But we need your help to reach even more people in need around the world.
