Speak up for the people of Sudan

Sudan is at breaking point. Sign our petition to demand the UK Government takes action to save lives now.

Petition closed

We have now closed the petition for hand-in to Downing Street on Tuesday 14 April. Thank you for your willingness to speak up for the people of Sudan and please continue to pray for them using the prayer points below.

The crisis in Sudan is deepening

Since the civil war began in April 2023, Sudan has been plunged into growing humanitarian need and the largest displacement crisis in the world today.

The needs are urgent:

  • Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes to escape violence.
  • Hunger is rising, and malnutrition has reached famine level in some regions.
  • Ongoing conflict is affecting food production and supply chains.
  • Access to safe water, shelter and basic healthcare is extremely limited.
  • Aid delivery is made difficult by blocked roads and attacks on humanitarian aid workers.
  • Women and children are among the most affected, and more than half of those displaced are children.

Sudan's crisis is not just continuing; it's deepening. We serve a God of justice and mercy, and we must use our voices to pray and demand action.

We can stand with our global neighbours in Sudan by calling on the UK Government to push for a ceasefire and increase aid funding.

How communities are affected

How Tearfund is responding

Working through local partners, Tearfund has provided vital support to almost 1,300 households in East Darfur, but the need is increasing day by day.

Dialnor’s story of survival

In East Darfur, 55-year-old Dialnor lives with his children and their grandmother. Their family has faced unbearable hardship. Not long ago, his wife Miriam fell sick with cholera, and tragically passed away. Shortly afterwards, the ongoing violence in Sudan brought more tragedy. A bomb that fell near Dialnor’s farm killed his eldest son, and also killed the donkey he relied on to farm and earn an income.

Tearfund’s partner stepped in to provide Dialnor with cash support to buy essentials. He was able to buy wheat, split beans, sugar, oil, and onions – basic food items that allowed him to feed his children.

Dialnor told us that the aid arrived at the most critical moment, when hunger was at its worst and the family was on the brink of starvation.

For Dialnor, this support was not just financial relief –it was a lifeline that helped his family survive against overwhelming odds. But so many more families like his are at breaking point.

We must demand that the UK Government take action.

How you can help today

Dialnor’s story is one of millions who have been displaced and affected by this crisis. You can make a difference today by adding your voice to our petition and praying for communities in Sudan.

What are we demanding the UK Government to do?

By signing the petition, you’re urging the UK Government to push for an immediate ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid to people in Sudan who are suffering.

The UK is the lead country in charge of handling the situation in Sudan at the UN Security Council, and has a crucial role in shaping the international response to the crisis.

Our petition calls on Yvette Cooper, the Foreign Secretary, and the UK Government to:

  • Push for an immediate, nationwide ceasefire by scaling up its diplomatic efforts, including through the UN Security Council, as the first step toward lasting peace.
  • Protect civilians, aid workers and local emergency responders by backing efforts to prevent further attacks, atrocities and International Humanitarian Law violations.
  • Secure rapid, safe, sustained humanitarian access across Sudan, especially to conflict-affected and besieged areas, so aid can reach every community in need.
  • Increase funding now, especially to local aid groups and women-led organisations, to help stop famine spreading further and provide life-saving assistance and services, especially to women and children forced to flee their homes.
  • Support a regional response to this crisis, working with neighbouring countries to increase humanitarian assistance to refugees, enable safe cross-border access for humanitarian aid, and prevent the conflict from spreading further.

Pray for Sudan

    • Pray for Sudanese people fleeing conflict and facing extreme poverty as a result of the ongoing violence, that God would be their healer and comforter and provide for all their needs.
    • Pray for strength for Tearfund’s partner as they provide cash support and life-saving aid to communities in East Darfur.
    • Pray that the international community will pursue a ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access.
