In Rwanda, the local church is the beating heart of the community. Tearfund church partners across the country are helping thousands of people realise their God-given potential and the resources they already have to build a better future. This week, pray for more churches to discover how they can reach out and support vulnerable people around them.
Sunday 21 July
‘You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?’ (Matthew 5:13)
Lord Jesus, we thank you that churches across Rwanda are hearing this message and are committing to transforming their communities and nation. Amen.
Monday 22 July
‘During our Bible studies [part of the Transforming Communities training], I thought I was saved, but reading Matthew chapter five, I realised I wasn’t,’ says Joyce of Nyagahuru Parish. ‘Now I live in harmony with my family.’ Praise God that Joyce came to know Jesus, and pray that she would be salt and light to all who know her.
Tuesday 23 July
Starting small but dreaming big – that’s what life looked like for Jean-Claude when he took part in Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training through his local church. He joined a self-help group and learnt how to save and make long-term goals. Thank God for bringing Jean-Claude and his self-help group together, and pray that this change in mindset will bring fruitful results.
Wednesday 24 July
Jean-Claude used a small loan from the self-help group to buy a pig. He started pig breeding and was then able to use the profits to pay back the loan. He continues to pig farm today. Praise God for a good return on investment, and pray that he would use the skills he’s learnt to train others so that they can earn an income from animal-rearing businesses.
Thursday 25 July
Jean-Claude also bought a cow from his profits. He uses the manure from his livestock to improve his agricultural yields, such as beans, which he sells to generate more income. From that business, he managed to extend his house. Father, we thank you for the abundance of life springing up around Jean-Claude, for the God-given potential you’ve planted in him and new-found possibilities. Amen.
Friday 26 July
Jean-Claude is being transformed spiritually. ‘I support other vulnerable people in the community,’ he says when talking about the impact studying the Bible had on him during his training. Pray that this spiritual transformation spills over into all aspects of life for the vulnerable people Jean-Claude is supporting.
Saturday 27 July
Empowered to start businesses and envisioned with long-term goals – the results of Transforming Communities training are astounding. Pray that more local churches in Rwanda will take part in the training.
