Over the last 13 years, conflict has forced many thousands of people from their homes. Additionally, more than a million refugees from Palestine and Syria living in Lebanon are facing hunger. Conflict and the economic crisis are causing rising unemployment and increased food prices. Amid this immense need, pray for Lebanon this week.

Sunday 26 July

‘For over a month, we lived out of our car, with all our belongings inside,’ says Rima. ‘It took us so long to find a place to stay, and even longer for the kids to feel comfortable there.’ Lord, we pray for those who have lost so much, that your peace and comfort will surround them. Amen.

Monday 27 July

‘My kids have suffered so much,’ says Rima. ‘They’ve lost their home, their bedrooms, their beds and their school. They’ve been learning online for two years now. Conflict is destroying our children’s future.’ Pray today for fresh opportunities for the generation of young people unable to go to school.

Tuesday 28 July

Praise God that Rima’s family were able to receive practical support through Tearfund’s Christian partner, Middle East Revive & Thrive. ‘The support we received has made a huge difference in our lives. Since we were displaced, we have been part of [Tearfund’s partner’s] programme. It has helped so much. Even the children’s activities have really lifted my daughters’ spirits.’

Wednesday 29 July

During the 2024/25 conflict, Amal was forced to leave her hometown and relocate to Beirut. The move was both physical and emotional – uprooting her from the land that held memories of her late husband and the life she had worked so hard to build for her daughters. Lord, we pray for strength and peace for families forced to relocate to escape war. Amen.

Thursday 30 July

Samira was invited to join Tearfund’s Connecting Hearts and Minds programme. During the sessions, Samira listened to women share struggles with people-pleasing and emotional exhaustion. ‘I thought it was selfish to put myself first,’ says Samira. ‘But now I see it’s necessary. If I don’t take care of myself, how can I keep giving to others?’ Heavenly Father, help Samira and the women in the programme understand the need for rest and self-care. Amen.

Friday 31 July

Mona is a Syrian refugee and a mother of five children. ‘When war broke out, my in-laws took my children to Turkey, and I was forced to stay behind. We were separated for more than two years.’ Lord, war brings so much pain. We pray for comfort for families who are forced to live separately. Amen.

Saturday 1 August

Through Tearfund’s partner, Mona was able to attend counselling sessions. ‘I found the courage to talk about it all. I learnt to recognise my emotions, to pause and breathe before reacting. I used to break things when I was angry; now I try to understand what I’m truly feeling.’ Lord, we pray that more people in Lebanon would have access to safe places where healing can begin. Amen.
