Millions of people live through crises that rarely make the headlines, despite families struggling to survive. With support from the Scottish Government’s Humanitarian Emergency Fund, Tearfund’s partners have been able to respond with emergency assistance. This week, we shine a spotlight on some of these places and pray for those affected.
Sunday 2 August
Pray for people living through humanitarian situations that rarely make the news – families bearing the daily weight of conflict, hunger, displacement and loss. For those whose suffering feels unseen by the world, Lord, draw near. May awareness grow and prayers rise for those who often feel forgotten. Amen.
Monday 3 August
Conflict in Sudan has left millions without food, safety or basic services. Ahmed is a father with a young family who survived on one meal a day until emergency cash enabled them to buy food and prevent hunger. Strengthen families like his, strengthen local partners who stand with them, and bring comfort in the midst of hardship.
Tuesday 4 August
Pray for refugees in Zabout camp, Chad, who have escaped violence in Sudan with little more than their clothes. We lift up Naima and her daughters, who have received cash support to start a small spice business so they can meet daily needs with dignity. God of mercy, provide safe shelter and peace as they rebuild their lives. Amen.
Wednesday 5 August
Pray for families in eastern Afghanistan, still reeling from recent earthquakes and surviving exceptionally harsh conditions. Saif and his children received a winter survival kit, and cash to purchase food, warm clothes and essentials. Lord, sustain all those who face such daily hardship, and strengthen the local teams delivering life-saving support. Amen.
Thursday 6 August
Many people in the Democratic Republic of Congo are caught in a cycle of conflict and displacement, forced into a situation where they have lost their sense of dignity. Pray for women and girls who have received essential hygiene items to restore their dignity amid overcrowded living conditions. Lord, uphold families whose lives have been torn apart. Amen.
Friday 7 August
Pray for people in Malawi facing a severe hunger crisis caused by drought and flooding, and for families forced into painful choices, such as skipping meals or selling essentials. Give thanks that emergency cash support has helped more than 2,000 households – around 13,500 people – to meet basic needs during this peak hunger season. Lord, provide for and protect those struggling to survive. Amen.
Saturday 8 August
Pray for Tearfund’s partners and local support workers in incredibly difficult and dangerous places. Lift up teams delivering food, cash assistance, protection and psychosocial care amid insecurity and suffering. Lord, grant them perseverance, safety and compassion. Renew their strength today, and remind them that their faithful service brings love and light into dark places. Amen.
