This week, pray for the people of Chad and the transformative work of Tearfund and our local partners. Ask God to bless these efforts to strengthen economic resilience, protect the vulnerable and restore hope to those affected by conflict and harmful traditions.

Sunday 30 August

Give thanks for the Souter Project and the Humanitarian Emergency Fund (HEF) response, which are working to bring healing and restoration to communities in the Batha and Sila regions. We thank you, Lord, for the local leaders who are courageously speaking out against harmful practices like female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C) to protect the next generation. Amen.

Monday 31 August

Haoua, a leader and FGM/C survivor in Ras Al Fil, says, ‘My fervent hope is that our young girls will never have to endure this painful ordeal, and that a future free from excision awaits them.’ Lord, we pray for the complete end of FGM/C in Ras Al Fil and across Chad. Amen.

Tuesday 1 September

‘We arrived here in Zabout after fleeing our country, where death was going from village to village searching for the living,’ says Amne. Pray for the thousands of Sudanese refugees in the Zabout camp who have faced the horrors of war. Ask for God’s comfort for those who, like Amne, have lost loved ones and are now trying to rebuild their lives in a new land.

Wednesday 2 September

Abdelmadjid, a father of six, shares: ‘I could feel the sky falling, it was so complicated… I was discouraged and morally despondent.’ Pray for heads of households struggling with the weight of living in poverty and debt. We give thanks for the agroforestry training that has tripled crop yields for farmers and ensured that families can eat every day.

Thursday 3 September

Lord, we pray for the safety and success of refugee entrepreneurs like Zam-zam. She says, ‘My activity is modest, but it is the fruit of my efforts and the trust I have received.’ Bless the training programmes and cash-in-hand distributions that allow women to start small businesses, regaining their self-esteem and independence after experiencing gender-based violence. Amen.

Friday 4 September

Mariam, a widow in her 60s, fled with her daughters and her donkey, saying, ‘When we arrived at the refugee camps, we had nothing but our lives.’ Pray for the elderly and the most vulnerable in the camps. We thank you that through the HEF project, Mariam’s family can now start a spice business. Lord, provide the freedom that comes from financial independence. Amen.

Saturday 5 September

‘I do what I can... the most important thing is that we’re alive,’ says Hamid, who dreams of opening a small clothing store. Lord, we pray for the dreams of displaced people. We ask for continued peace and security along the border with Sudan, and for the blessing of the Chadian government and humanitarian teams working day and night to provide safety. Amen.
