Tackling the big challenges, including youth unemployment and the limits of small-scale farming, pastors and churches are engaging with their communities through a process we call Church and Community Transformation (CCT). Bible classes are creating a mindset shift, helping people recognise the resources that God has blessed the local people with – both inside them and around them.

By hosting a Big Quiz Night, you’ll be raising funds for transformative CCT work that’s changing the lives of so many people.

Paying in your donations to Tearfund is quick and easy.

Absolutely not. The quiz is designed to be enjoyed by anyone and everyone.

The resources for this year’s quiz have been designed to work for either an online or in-person event (or both in person with quizzers also joining online!). If you have any questions, please email [email protected] – we’d be happy to help.

We will also be streaming the quiz live on JustGiving. Sign up and you will receive this link nearer the time.

All you need is a laptop, tablet or smartphone, plus a good internet connection. If technology isn’t your forte, you may wish to find your local tech expert to help you – possibly the person who has been organising your online services?

There are several good platforms available, for example, Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Facebook Live etc. We recommend you use the one you’re most familiar with or that’s most popular among your congregation, but check for any restrictions (e.g. time limits or maximum numbers).

Think through your logistics. Will participants be marking their own quizzes or will you have them sent to you after each round? Will you use one platform to host (e.g. Zoom) and suggest teams set up WhatsApp groups to deliberate over answers?

We’d love everyone across the country to host their quiz on the same night. Imagine being part of one of the biggest quiz events ever! However, if this date isn’t possible for you, then it’s fine to hold your quiz on a different day. There’s an option to tell us if you’re doing this on the sign-up form.

The quiz is likely to take an hour and a half, so we recommend that you start at 7.30pm. But it’s up to you. Attendance numbers will need to be submitted on our online dashboard by 8.30pm so that everyone can see the total number of quizzers all around the UK. The link to the dashboard will be emailed before the event.

We’ll provide everything you need to promote and run your quiz. This will include:

• A full quiz film including six of the rounds to play from start to finish, pausing when needed.
• An example quizmaster script along with the questions and answers to all the rounds, a tie-breaker question and fun ideas for interactive rounds.
• A PowerPoint with the questions and answers to all the rounds.
• The fundraising film to show before a half-time break.
• A scorecard to help you keep track of teams’ scores throughout the evening.
• The Big Quiz Night logo.
• Social media banners.
• A poster to download and print.
• A short promotional video to share with your congregation and community to invite them to take part.

Access to the resources will be via our website – you will receive a link to all the resources via email when you sign up. The link will also appear in all subsequent Big Quiz Night emails that you receive from us.

The quiz films will be available from September. We will email to let you know as soon as they are available.

All the favourites, including general knowledge, current events, food and drink, history, nature, flags of the world, and film, arts and culture, and sport. There will be a range of question styles, including visual questions and an optional family round.

Yes, feel free to tailor the rounds to suit your guests. You could even write your own local knowledge round. The Quizmaster pack also includes some fun ideas for interactive rounds.

Our inspiring fundraising film will tell your quizzers what the night is all about. Empowering people to lift themselves out of poverty is at the heart of the Big Quiz Night, and the film will give everyone the opportunity to contribute. The film is approximately three minutes long.

We’ve designed the quiz to suit a wide range of ages, so expect questions that span the generations from secondary school upwards.

We recommend between four and six, but you can be flexible. Mix up the age groups if you can, to ensure a good range of knowledge in each team.

As many as you like – the more the merrier! The Big Quiz Night is a great opportunity to invite friends, family and people from your wider community. Many churches tell us that it’s one of the best events of the year for bringing in people from outside your congregation.

We’ll have a dashboard on our website on the night where you can input the number of people taking part in your quiz. It’ll also show you how many others are taking part across the country. Keep an eye out for the email in the run-up to the event that will tell you how to access the dashboard.

Yes, after 8.30pm – and after you’ve submitted your participant numbers – you’ll be able to see a totaliser with the grand total of participants who took part in the quiz.

People will be able to donate via your personal JustGiving page (reminder: you will need to set this up prior to the evening). We suggest showing the film before half-time and then asking people to give generously. Make sure to share your QR code as well as the link to your JustGiving page on all of your promotional material and throughout your Big Quiz Night. If you arrange a ‘voluntary donation’ event where people are free to attend whatever they decide to give (including making no donation), then all donations will qualify for Gift Aid. However, if you set a ticket price, this will not be eligible for Gift Aid.
